Independent reading is a comprehensive program for teaching children aged 5–7 to read independently. It follows methodological recommendations and was developed in cooperation with prominent Polish authors and illustrators. Large letters and clear type make the learning process easier, while engaging stories and beautiful illustrations make reading time great fun. Books from the Czytam sobie series can be used at home, at school or in the library. Each book includes stickers and a diploma, which reinforce the child’s sense of achievement.
Assembling words, or Level 1, is an excellent introduction to learning to read. The text contains 150–200 words and 23 basic sounds. The sentences are simple and short. Words in boxes are provided along the sides of each page for practising the sounds. The text is placed at the bottom of the page, making it easier for a young reader to follow each letter and word with their finger.
Assembling sentences, or Level 2, is a level for learning to read using syllables. The text contains 800–900 words, 23 basic sounds and h. The sentences in the text are longer and there are more dialogues. Framed words appear along the side of each page to help practise syllabification.
I swallow pages, or Level 3, consists of stories containing 2,500–2,800 words. At this level, all sounds are used. The sentences are more complex, and at the end of the book there is an alphabetical glossary of more difficult words. The illustrations are black and white, and the text clearly outweighs the illustrations, giving the child the feeling of communicating with a real book.
