The Moyo Montessori Stamp Game builds on work with the golden bead material and guides the child from a concrete perception of quantities to a more abstract representation of numbers. The wooden stamps are the same size, but their colors clearly distinguish units, tens, hundreds, and thousands. This helps the child consolidate the meaning of zeros in numbers, understand place values, and correctly write multi-digit numbers.
The material is intended for individual work by a child who already has experience with the golden bead material. It allows practice of all four basic mathematical operations, including dynamic examples involving exchanging values between place values. The figures and colored counters can also be used for division, including division by multi-digit numbers or with a zero place-value holder.
For complete work, additional Montessori materials are also needed, such as a small set of numbers 1–9000, an introductory set of golden bead material, squared paper, a pencil, an eraser, a ruler, and a grid.
