The aim of sensory education is to give a child the opportunity to obtain clear and conscious information from the environment thanks to their senses – and thus enable them to explore their surroundings and the world more deeply and accurately. Maria Montessori proceeded from the idea that a child perceives with all their senses from birth and naturally explores their surroundings.
A child learns not mainly through adults explaining something, but above all through their own experiences – by being able to take things in their hands and “feel” them. This Montessori aid supports a natural way of learning and develops sensory perception during the period when children are most open to sensory stimuli.
