A sensory Montessori aid with colored knobless cylinders made of beech wood that develops the stereognostic sense, size comparison, and fine motor skills. The child learns to arrange the cylinders by dimensions horizontally and vertically, strengthens concentration, and indirectly prepares for writing, geometry, and mathematical concepts.

Colored knobless cylinders are a classic sensory material inspired by the pedagogy of Maria Montessori. The child compares the height and width of the cylinders, creates rows and structures, and naturally acquires concepts such as tall/short, wide/thin, taller than… or widest.

The aid contains 4 boxes, each with 10 cylinders of the same sizes as the “cylinders with knobs”. It is recommended to offer it to the child only after they have mastered working with cylinders with knobs. Error control is mainly visual – the child perceives harmony or disharmony when arranging and building.

What the child practices and develops:

  • fine motor skills and the pincer grip (preparation for correct pencil grip)
  • independence and concentration when completing a task
  • perception of dimensions and their interplay (preparation for geometry)
  • basics of mathematical thinking (the cylinder as a mathematical concept, indirect preparation for the decimal system)
  • ordering by rules: horizontally and vertically, possibly even with eyes closed
